South Johnson County
Leawood has developed just beyond Old Leawood and boasts newer retail and residential construction. This includes home divisions such as Hallbrook Farms (built on the former farm of Joyce Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards) and Mission Farms, a newer mixed used development. Built on the site of the old Saddle & Sirloin club it features condos, high-end retail, casual and fine dining that includes the outposts of several well regarded Kansas City restaurants such as Room 39, Blanc Burgers and Blue Koi.
Overland Park is an outer ring suburb that has grown dramatically over the last 20 years, becoming a major city in its own right with top retail (Whole Foods, Nordstrom, Crate&Barrel), large business centers and many new and large residential developments that range from rental, condo to medium and large-scale homes in subdivisions seemingly brimming full of children. The nationally recognized Johnson County School District makes Overland Park particularly attractive for growing families.
